Students will increase their advanced vocabulary, improve their ability to decode the meaning of metaphors, similes, and abstract language, and understand short-to-medium length explanations of deep ideas. As a result, they will improve their ability to communicate complex thought.

Students will interact with aural, visual, and written material relating to various lifestyle techniqies and strategies. They will experiment with implementing these strategies in their daily lives. They will report to the class the results of such attempts.

Participation 70%*, Final test 30%

*Students cannot receive participation scores for classes they do not attend. As a result, students with the minimum required attendance could still fail to pass the course if they do not score sufficiently well on the final test. On the other hand, students with 100% attendance are guaranteed to pass the course, regardlesss of their score in the final test.

There will be an extensive quiz at the end of the quarter and students will be expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of the material covered during the quarter.

There will be little, if any, formal study for homework. Instead, students will be encouraged to implement the techniques covered in class in their daily lives and prepare to report back their experiences.
