授業概要 |
This course explores the ways in which art and architecture are influenced by various religious belief systems. We will begin by examining the artwork and architectural achievements associated with major religions in Asia, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shintoism. Following this, we will study the impact of Western religious belief systems, focusing on the art and architecture inspired by Ancient and Classical Greece, Rome, and Christianity. 美術、および建築様式が、様々な宗教から受けた影響を学んでいきます。まず、アジアの主要宗教、すなわちヒンズー教、仏教、儒教、神道を。次に、西洋の宗教、すなわち古代ギリシャと古代ローマの宗教、キリスト教を。各々の宗教の産み出した芸術作品、および建築様式を考察します。

到達目標 |
By the end of this course, students will: 1. Become familiar with English terminology related to various religions, as well as associated art and architectural forms. 各宗教、美術、建築様式に関する専門用語を英語で理解する。
2. Develop descriptive vocabulary to effectively express their opinions about different religions and the art forms inspired by them. 様々な宗教、およびそれに基づく芸術形式について、自分の考えを効果的に表現できるように、関連語彙を増強する。
3. Learn to identify the roots of contemporary art forms that are influenced by various religious traditions. 現在における芸術形式の根源となる、様々な宗教との関連性を、識別することができるようになる。
4. Create and present their own artwork inspired by one or more religions, applying the concepts or principles of religious art. ひとつ、もしくは複数の宗教をもとに、宗教芸術の概念、原理を生かした学生自身の作品を提出する。

成績評価方法・基準 |
Participation: 40% (授業への積極性 40%) Online Nearpod Tests - Demonstrate the ability to extract relevant information from reference materials and answer correctly.
Weekly Assessment: 30% (週毎の評価30%) Mini assignments - Students need to submit brief written papers and artwork for presentation in class. The paper's length should range from 150 to 300 words, depending on the student's English proficiency level.
Final Assessment: 30% (期末評価30%) Final Presentation - Present ideas in a clear and organized manner. Use well-structured sentences to convey thoughts. Use appropriate artistic terminology and artwork.

Submit a written paper (300 ~ 500 words, based on English proficiency level) on your final project topic, accompanied by your original artwork, one week prior to the presentation.

Buddhism and Buddhist Art (Part 1) 仏教と仏教芸術 Principal beliefs and practices of Buddhism. Exploring auspicious Buddhist symbols and their meanings. Analyzing mudras and their significance.

Confucianism and Confucian Art (Part 2) 道教 Confucianism is a doctrine on how to live and strive to be an Ideal Person in society. One way in achieving that is by pursing "Arts of Peace." Poems are a form of literary art. Activity: Write two styles of poetry in English reflecting the "Arts of Peace." Design accompanying artwork inspired by your poems.

Incorporate concepts and principles of religious art. ひとつ、もしくは複数の宗教、および宗教芸術を選び、概念化して、それに基づく芸術作品を制作する。 Present and discuss your artwork in a class exhibition format. クラス発表会形式で、作品のプレゼンテーションをする。
